Charlotte Chart

I got a nice message from Yarngirl today about my Charlotte chart.  It's still here - I just haven't finished updating my template............. shame on me.  Who would have "thunk" that people still head over here to find that chart.

Yarngirl, I'm really hoping that you'll come back here because I have no other way of reaching you.  I can't seem to attach something to an e-mail response in motime and I don't have your actual e-mail or blog link if you have a blog.

So, here's the link - right clicking and saving it should do the trick but do let me know if you have troubles.  I haven't looked at this chart in ages and ages:

Charlotte Spreadsheet
(Right Click on link and Save)

And my big news, I can't talk much about but I am going to be published in a Jewelry magazine soon. I have a super tight deadline for my submission.  And the coolest thing is that they contacted me..... it just fell into my lap and even though I'm more freaked out than I can describe, I have the definite feeling that I just have to run with it.  How often does something like this come around?

One more day............... I'm so ready for the weekend.

More on Kauni's Colours

I'm still chugging along on my Kauni cardie............ aside from the odd few stitches on some socks, that's all I've been working on even though I've had some fun ideas for stuff that I'd love to put into my store.

So here is the issue with the colour dilemma - I have since figured out why the abrupt change in colour.  I'm not sure if you'll be able to see from the picture but do have a look:

Kauni Colour Splice Issue

If you notice, orange was going to meet orange and if you look at the top of the ball of yarn on the left hand side, purple goes right into orange.  Well, it's obvious that the yarn was spliced right at that point.  So, I did what I had to and took my 3rd ball of yarn and wound it to the purply/eggplant colour and re-spliced the yarn so I'd have the right colour progression.  All is good for the moment.  I'm a bit further along now than in this picture:

Kauni Progress - January 27

It is a fun knit.  I have a hard time believing that I have enough yarn though.

Here is my current sock in progress:

Socks #3 - 2008 - Opal Accapulco

It's Opal Accapulco and I just love the colour combo.  A fun knit.

Here's my latest pin - it was in my store until yesterday afternoon but it has since sold.  I loved that particular bead:

Purple and Green Kazuri Shawl Pin

And for some jewelry, I personally just love this necklace.  The focal bead came to me as a trade at a bead show.  A very talented B.C. lampwork artist was displaying her wares and she loved something that I had made that I showed her and some trading ensued.  The result is this lovely necklace.  I accented the lampwork focal with gold filled chain and swarovski crystals:

Black Swirl Lampwork Necklace

This morning, I also listed a really simple pair of earrings, perfect for a May birthday given that I used emerald coloured czech glass nuggets.

Emerald Long Hoops

It's a very snowy day here today but it seems that for now, the snow has stopped.  The roads weren't the greatest but hubby drove me to work.  Hope you're all keeping warm, wherever you are.

Capturing a Moment in the Life with Children

Look at these angels....................... more pictures of my budding artists:

Budding Artists

Budding Artists

JR likes to do everything his sister does.

But now that the cuteness is out of the way, I'll have to record this story for keepsake times.

Last night, I picked JR up from daycare and then drove to Little Miss' daycare to pick her up.  We were heading to McDonald's after to grab a quick bite before getting her to her gymnastics class.  I got them both in the car and Little Miss says: "I have something for JR" and she hands me one of those drink containers that are rectangular in shape and have a purple screw lid with the straw inside and you just flip a flat shaped straw like thing up to drink.  I asked what it was because I usually fill it with water for her.  She said that it was juice.  So my thought were that maybe she didn't finish her apple juice box and her teachers or she herself poured it into the drink box.  It was dark out but I could tell it had the colour of juice.  JR loves juice and when he heard the word juice, he wanted to have it.  So I flipped up the little white drinking spout - well, well................... it exploded.  It was old, very, very badly fermented juice and it went all over me, my face, my hair, my glasses and it also got everywhere in the car, the car inside roof, the opposite side passenger door etc.  The smell, the smell, the smell................................ I just burst out laughing.  It was so gross.  It was really anyone's fault.  But man..... the car still smells and probably will do so even after a thorough cleaning - a thorough cleaning that we haven't had the time for yet.  One for the memory books.............. I'll be a bit more careful when little Miss hands me some drink/food that I don't know where it has been or how long it has been there.

Have a great weekend.  We have a busy one and it's supposed to start snowing tomorrow.

Shameless Self Promotion

It's a weird busy day today.  Hubby is over on the other side of the water - the helicopter should have taken him there by now.  I managed to get both kids dressed and ready for daycare and out the door at a decent time and I "only" arrived late at work by about 45 minutes.  But then, that's my self-imposed time as nobody is really watching the clock.  Breakfast for the kids though consisted of a cereal bar in the car. :-)

I'm just quickly posting this bit of promo today because I had a wonderful reader in a comment ask me about stitch markers.  I don't have many in my store right now but I have a few sets of stitch markers that I made a little while ago.  They are lovely.  The beads are so pretty and sparkly.  I experimented with closed jump rings and they turned out beautifully.  The closed jump rings have an advantage over open jump rings in that there is no potential for the ring snagging the knitting.  I like them but I could only find the closed rings in sterling silver making them not only sparkly but also precious.....  I want to be adding more and more stitch markers over time as I find the time to make more.  Here are the pictures of a few:
Round and Round We Go Blue Stitch Markers

Round and Round Rondelle Stitch Markers

Round and Round we go Purple and Black Stitch Markers

Little Itty Bitty Stitch Markers

These last ones are my Itty Bitty markers.  They have small rings and are meant for sock knitting or lace on delicate needles.  They are shown suspended on a 2.5 mm Crystal Palace bamboo needle.

These are all listed in my store and I have a special Fibre Lover section where I have all my stitch markers, knitting/spinning/crochet cell phone charms as well as my shawl pins.

Hope everyone's week is going well.  For now, I'm feeling a tad tired but it has already been a long day and will continue to be a long one.

JR is 2 and more Kauni

Okay, so let's forget about the template for the moment.  It's bugging me that I haven't yanked it into shape yet but I just haven't had the time.  I'm trying to do so much all at the same time.  The template will happen - eventually soon. :-)  But then I wonder if it bothers anyone else out there nearly as much as it bothers me.... probably not.  I've also slowed right down on Ravelry and updating my stash but I had made good progress while I was on holidays.  Oh yeah, that's it............... I'm back at work and the January blahs are slowing me right down - or is that what it's like when the big 4 - 0 is looming right around the corner?  I wanna have a virtual party or should it be more like a wake?  I mean, doesn't it feel like you're getting old when you go for your fun check-up with your family physician and all of a sudden you're getting to go and have tests and mamograms and the whole big done?  Yikes.  But I digress.

Let's talk about JR's 2nd birthday.......... I can't believe that he turned 2 last Thursday.  Wow.  Where did the time go?  It most certainly got away from me.  So we had a little party.  I made a great dinner and then the inlaws canceled.  So it was just my Mom and Dad and the four of us.  It was nice and relaxing.  JR loved his cake and had fun with his presents.  Of course, Little Miss enjoyed helping.

JR and Opa's B-Day Cake

JR 2nd B-Day - Candles

JR 2nd B-Day - Cake Eating

He sure loved that cake.

I've pretty much been knitting on my Kauni cardigan pretty steady.  I've actually made quite a bit more progress since this picture and right now I'm worried that my colours are going to collide and not contrast very well.  Looks to me like I'm heading for yellows on oranges or something like that.  I'm going to keep going to see how it works out because I really don't feel like ripping.

Kauni - Progress 2

Since this picture I've done 2 more sets of squares.  I love how it's looking so far but I hope that the looming colour clash won't get me down too much.

Here's just one new picture among a number of new things in my store

Amethyst Chandeliers

This is a pair of sterling silver chandelier earrings that are great for February birthdays (aka mine!!!).  These are so sparkly and dangly and I have mised up the amethyst coloured Swarovski crystals with a dark rose, light amethyst and smok quartz crystals.  A lovely combination.

I said I'd only pull up one picture but I'd also love to show you my stainless steel byzantine bracelet.  I have one just like it and I wear it 24/7.  It just never comes off and it wears and wears and wears...... very strong and durable, plain and simple - and it still looks good.

Stainless Steel Byzantine Bracelet

That about wraps it up for now.  Have a wonderful day today and ask me tomorrow how I'm doing.... I know this sounds so pathetic but hubby and I are a team and we do stuff as a team so on a work/weekday I have never had to get the kids all organized and ready to get out the door and take them both to daycare (which is a lot of driving for me because I have to go from our house to LIttle Miss' daycare then cross Surrey pretty much all the way to get to JR's daycare and then I loop back down all the way through Surrey again to get to the office.  Tomorrow, he has to be out the door by 6 am to get to the Heli Jet airport downtown to fly over to Victoria.  So, I'm flying solo tomorrow.  We'll see if I succeed.

A is for Ansbach...............

A bit late for the A post but since I just signed up I figured I should include one for "A".

A is for Ansbach and Ansbach is my home town in Germany.  I lived there since the age of 5 until we moved to Canada when I was almost 17.  It is now only a short time in my almost 40 years on this planet but it was where I spent all my "growing years".  First day of Kindergarten, first day of Grade 1, first love, teenage rebel times.  I especially remember Ansbach fondly for its yarn shops.  Now, that was all back then.  I haven't been back in many, many moons so I have no idea what's going on there now.  I still have friends there that I write to and I hope to get back there one day.

Yesterday I Forgot....

Yesterday, I forgot that in all my excitement about my Kauni cardigan, I actually meant to make a comment about the KnitPicks Harmony needles.

Before Christmas, I ordered some needle tips in the Harmony wood as well as some DPNs to check them out.  The 3.5 mm Harmony tips are on my Kauni right now and I also have a set of 2.25 mm DPNs with some Opal sock yarn on the needles and so far, I'm loving both of them.  I like my regular nickel needle tip needle set that my hubby gave me for Christmas some time ago but I can see myself very quickly adding onto my Harmony set.  I'm thinking about dropping birthday hints left right and center................. after all, it's a milestone birthday for me coming up in just over a month.  Yikes............ I'm petrified - so I might as well be treated to some lovely knitterly type gifts, eh?

No new pics today but I started the actual pattern on the Kauni last night and got one square done.  I'm liking it.  I'm liking it.  I made good progress watching the first set of auditions for American Idol.  One sure wonders what goes through some peoples' heads!!!

Well, I thought about power knitting through the pair of Opal Acapulco socks that I have on those Harmony needles right now.  One of hubby's aunts gave me a big hint when we saw her before Christmas that she'd really love a pair of colourful socks some time.  I figured I could treat her but didn't get anything accomplished for Christmas.  She's in town right now (they live way up north) and we thought that with some engineering, we could get her and "great grandma" to also come for JR's birthday party on the weekend.  My MIL was on the same wave length but hubby's Auntie wasn't up for it.  I'm highly disappointed by that (she's usually my favourite extended family auntie).  In turn, she wants us to make the trek out to where great grandma lives, with the kids and all the next weekend to see her.  We just made that big trek last weekend.  And.... we can't take them anywhere because there isn't enough room in our vehicle to do that.  Okay, rant over.  I guess I just had my feelings hurt.  So, she'll get some socks at some point but not this time.  I don't think I could have finished them by Saturday anyways.

More Socks and Taking the Plunge

Well, it's been a bit challenging to find the time to make the template pretty again.  I got stuck at the banner - there was some stuff I couldn't figure out.  The banner is actually higher by design but I couldn't figure out the formatting within the template to make it work.  We'll see how it goes......... I'll keep plugging.  I do like the simplicity of the white for the moment.  I guess that's the biggest limitation about blogging here.... I'd love to have the ease of more different template styles.  I will keep plugging.

Introducing sock pair #2 for 2008:

#2 - 2008
Made for: Opa
Size: 40/41
Needles: 2.5 mm DPNs
Yarn: OnLine

My Dad's birthday present is now officially finished.  At work during lunch when I haven't been going for walks, I've been picking up a pair of socks with some multi coloured Trekking XXL that had been lingering on my filing cabinet  for ever so I'm progressing on those.  On the weekend, I also cast on for a pair of socks in a great shade of Opal Accapulco - blues and purples.  Great colours.

And then, on the weekend, I took the plunge.  I cast on for my Kauni cardigan.  And Shelley told me I wouldn't be able to put it down and she was right.  I haven't gotten very far.  The picture is from before finishing the corrugated ribbing but I'm not that much further.  I've just started the first few solid pattern rows.  In a summer visit up to Fun Knits  we very carefully selected my balls of Kauni and the colour sequence I wanted to try.  Well, I couldn't remember any of what we picked and why we picked and what balls to start with so I just went with the flow and here it is:

Last night, I finished the corrugated ribbing and I'm starting on the first set of squares tonight.  The purple is slowly moving into the blues and the yellow more into the deeper orange tones.  I'm so excited by this.

Before I go, I wanted to show you a picture of my budding artists at work:

If you've been following my blog for some time you can probably remember all the trials and tribulations we went through with the little guy just at the end of my pregnancy with him and his early entrance into this world.  Well, can you believe that on Thursday, he turns 2?  Somehow the day seems blocked in my mind.  I'm having a hard time with my tiny, tiny baby from two years ago who was in an incubator and in the NICU has turned into this cute but willful little two year old who is eager and antsy to explore the world on his terms.  Happy Birthday BABE!!!

Socks are growing

Sock pair #2 of the year is growing.  I've finished the first sock and the second sock has been started.  I'm very pleased with that.  My Dad's birthday is on January 18th (the day after JR's 2nd birthday) and we're celebrating both their special days on the 19th.  That means I have 11 more days to finish that sock and I should have no problem accomplishing that.  Here it is:

I like the colours of this yarn.  A great blue so good for a guy but still quite vibrant.

I've got some other sock patterns I want to try out after this one but once that sock is finished, I will cast on my Kauni cardigan and also try to finish up some started sweater projects.

I listed a nice new pair of earrings yesterday.  I just love hoops.

To see listing, click here

We woke up to snow this morning but it was expected.  Fortunately, the roads were in pretty decent shape once it was time to drive to work.  Hope everyone is having a good week.  Since this is my first week back at work, it seems like it's going at a snail's pace.
