The little Miss and I had our first experimental soap felting afternoon today:

Great way to have her get crafty with me and so far so good!!!  One more way to use up the large quantities of fibre I now own.

Introducing

Well, I'm a big Etsy fan and have been from the start but I'm spreading my wings a little and so I'd like to introduce my new store on another site dedicated to giving artisans a venue to sell their wonderful work.  That site is ArtFire.  My store, much like on Etsy is called Creations by Uli.  Unlike my branching off my fibre related shop on Etsy, Knitter's Nook, on this new site, I will run only one shop and it will combine my chainmaille jewelry and other jewelry as well as my fibery pursuits.

Take a peek and let me know what you think.  I've only just started adding a few listings.

Having said that, I'm also considering packing up and moving my blog but I just can't make up my mind.  There is a lot of history here and I like the continuity of the years that I've been writing this blog.  Now, if I move on.... so much will be lost.

I have my doubts about the future and viability of being here though.  I just get a funny feeling.  I tried to sign up for the paid service in December to get more storage and more features and I thought it succeeded but obviously it didn't because I'm back to the basic free service and when I try to upgrade, it won't let me.  I haven't tried but I think there is little support available right at this point.  So, I'm pondering.

I'm off tomorrow to go on a field trip with girlie.  I have a few free hours before I have to go to the school to go with the kids but there are so many things I think I'll get done........ yeah right!!!

Starting the Year off with a Hat

It's Sunday night, the kids are fighting bed time and I wish we could turn back time on the weekend.  There is so much I haven't done yet that I wanted to get done............... but here is what I worked on this week.  (the knitting was done this week, the spinning over the holidays).

This lovely fibre:
AlpacaBlend4

70/30 SW Merino/Alpace Blend from Squoosh

SW Alpaca/Merino 3 - PlurkCraft365 - 02/365

turned into this great 2-ply heavy worsted weight - 140 yards or so

Dean Street Hat - 08/365

and the result was this awesome hat, the Dean Street Hat.

What a great first finished project for 2009.  I enjoyed making this hat and will use this pattern again.  I'm thinking about some mittens using a similar stitch pattern on the back of the hand.  But as it goes with many of my ideas - they never come to fruition because I have a great idea but then I never find/make the time to do anything about it.

Have a great week.

Norwegian Woods Unblocked

I cast of a long, long, long row of lots and lots of stitches and finally finished up my Norwegian Woods shawl.  loved knitting this design and here it is in its unblocked state.

Unblocked Norwegian Woods Shawl - 04/365

I can't wait to see how pretty it will look when I finally get to blocking it.  I'm just not sure when I will find the time or the space where a kitten won't interfere etc.  Tomorrow it's back to work.  I find this really to be the low point of the year.  I find that long stretch of time without any holidays, the dark dreary winter nights and all the looming work to be very much a downer.  Well, I'll surround myself with fibre and yarn and my jewelry (and my family of course) and prod along.
